Respect is the key to success
RESPECT IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
An interesting story occurred on a construction site, which shows us the true value of each participant in a construction project.
The architect who arrived with his technical drawings claimed that without his professional drawings, construction could not begin. The structural engineer also came up with complex calculations of the structural strength, insisting that without his professional intervention, the building would be in danger of collapsing. The cost estimator also boasted about his carefully prepared budget.
All these experts had papers in their hands, each feeling more important than the other in the success of the project.
The client, who was listening attentively, looked at the construction engineer who was sitting quietly to the side, following the conversation without saying a word.
After a while, the client stood up and gave his opinion wisely: "You professionals, you know how to speak well. But let me take this opportunity to ask you: If I hadn't given a single cent, who would have drawn up the drawings? Who would have done the structural calculations? Who would have prepared the budget? And most of all, who would have bought the building materials?"
The meeting fell silent. The architect had no answer. The engineer fell silent. The estimator looked away.
Then the construction worker, who had been listening quietly, added something that the others had not noticed:
"Client, although you have the financial means, you yourself do not build. All the drawings and calculations are just preparatory materials. I am the one who lifts the bricks, mixes the concrete, erects the pillars and builds the walls. Without me, my laborers and fellow craftsmen, the building cannot stand. Without our hands, your beautiful drawings and designs remain only on paper."
The professionals looked at each other in amazement.
The client added: "Exactly. Me and the construction worker are the pillars of this project. I invest resources, he invests his energy and practical skills. The rest of you are important, but they are an extension of the process. Without the client and the worker, the construction cannot be completed."
From that day on, everyone on the site changed their perspective. The architect began to respect the laborer. The engineer listened carefully to the worker. The estimator stopped thinking that he was the only one who was important.
Everyone understood that in construction, respect begins with the one who invests money and the one who does the practical work. The others are important contributors, but without these two fundamentals, the project cannot move forward.
The message is clear: Everyone has their important role, but without the client and the construction worker, the other experts are like flawless art. We are reminded to respect construction workers, because without them, even our professional skills cannot be seen in the field.
